The Nickelodeon Series

In 2012 Nickelodeon premiered the newest iteration of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. This time it was in CGI animation, with Jason Biggs voicing Leo, Sean Astin voicing Raph, Rob Paulsen voicing Donnie, Greg Cipes voicing Mikey, Mae Whitman voicing April, and Kevin Michael Richardson voicing the Shredder. 

The series is just about finishing up its second season and recently announced was that Jason Biggs would be replaced by Seth Green! This season also brought Corey Feldman back to the turtles voicing Slash. Roseanne and other comedians have lent their voices to the series, making the voice acting just as interesting as the show itself.

The turtles find themselves fighting the Kraang and Shredder quite often. Other villains have included the Rat King, Spiderbytes, Rahzer who was formerly Dog Pound, Fish Face and more! Rocksteady and Bebop have recently appeared in their human form but are expected to turn into mutants in the very near future.

Nickelodeon has done a fantastic job with this series. I hope it can continue and be as popular as it was with the first series. Already there is merchandise and toys and plenty of other TMNT branded gear based on the new series. Nickelodeon is also catering to the adult fans with bring back some classic toys and other products featuring the original turtles.

2k3/4Kids Series Write Up

After the travesty that is known at The Next Mutation the turtles property seemed to take a chill pill for a few years. During this time Kevin Eastman would sell his share of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles to co-creator Peter Laird. After the sale, 4Kids and Peter Laird teamed up to produce a new TMNT series (some call this series the 2k3 series, others call it the 4kids series). This time Peter would have more control and would take the series back to its original comic roots, while also still maintaining a somewhat lighthearted aspect.

The series ran for seven seasons. The sixth season (entitled Fast Forward) sent the turtles into the future 100 years and found them working alongside Cody Jones the great-grandson of April and Casey. At the end of the season the turtles make it back to the present day. In the last season (entitled Back to The Sewers) the turtles as well as April got a minor makeover to look more in-line with their 2007 movie counterparts. 

The series ended with a fantastic movie entitled Turtles Forever which found the turtles teamed up with their 1980s counterparts to go up against Shredder who has decided to destroy all of the TMNT multiverses. The series ended in 2009 with the sale to Nickelodeon. The 2K3 series is one of the best TMNT series to ever be made, however it does not seem to get as much recognition as the original series and now that the new Nickelodeon series is making huge numbers it doesn't look like it ever will.

Some of the DVD releases for this series are very hard to find and can catch a lot of money online, so if you ever spot them be sure to pick them up as this series is definitely worth watching. However good luck finding Season 7 anywhere except Australia as it has not even been released in here in the U.S.

Wildcat has been cast for season 3 of Arrow

New characters will be appearing in season 3 of Arrow this fall. One of those new characters will be Wildact. Theodore “Ted” Grant, Wildcat, will be played by J. R. Ramirez. J. R. Ramirez has played a recurring role as Julio on Starz’s “Power” and a small role on “Emily Owens M.D.” and “24″.

The Original Series

On December 28th, 1987 a five part miniseries began in syndication featuring the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. The series was produced by Fred Wolf and launched what would dominate the late 80's and 90's and be known as Turtle-Mania.

Playmates Toys required that a television deal be made first before they would begin creating toys. After the first miniseries debuted the first series of toys was released. The show became one of the most popular cartoons in history. Food, toys, clothes, and all other types of merchandise was created based on the characters from the show. The cartoon ran until November 2nd, 1996. 

The cartoon is one of the reasons the turtles have their colored headbands. In the comics they all originally had only red headbands. Playmates felt that they needed a way to distinguish each turtle from each other, so the colors were assigned.

Nothing can compared to the original series. While Nickelodeon and IDW are both bringing in elements from this series along with elements from other parts of the TMNT universe, there is a nostalgia about the original cartoon that you have to love.

Fun Fact! The original theme song was written and performed by Chuck Lorre and DC Brown. Chuck Lorre is responsible for shows such as The Big Bang Theory and Two and a Half Men!

Fun Fact Number 2! In the U.K. the word "ninja" was banned so the show was renamed to Teenage Mutant Hero Turtles and was still just as successful.

The Simpsons came out a few months before I was born. My mother was sure she was never going to let her little girl watch such a horrible show. Flash forward a few year and this became my favorite show. I looked forward to it every Sunday. The Tree House of Horror episodes were my favorite. 

When Family Guy came out on Fox, the 1st time, a older family member called my mom to tell her about all the horrible things that were being done and said on this tv show. And from there I was banned from watching it. Well of course I watched it anyways and it became my new favorite show. 

Even today they are way up there on my favorite tv show list. I look forward to new Family Guy episodes and I might not watch The Simpsons as much as I used to, but I still try to stay up to date on the new episodes. 

In September we will be getting an awesome hour long Family Guy/Simpsons crossover episode. Family Guy and the Simpsons have been throwing jokes at each other for a while now and I'm guessing the creators are finally giving into the fans. 

 Peter (Seth MacFarlane) and the Griffins get out of dodge and end up in Springfield, where they are greeted by a friendly stranger named Homer Simpson (guest voice Dan Castellaneta), who welcomes his new “albino” friends with open arms. The families get along famously: Stewie (MacFarlane) becomes obsessed with Bart (guest voice Nancy Cartwright) and his old-fashioned pranks; Lisa (guest voice Yeardley Smith) takes Meg (Mila Kunis) under her wing and is determined to find something – anything – at which she excels; Marge (guest voice Julie Kavner) and Lois (Alex Borstein) ditch housework for a little bonding; and Peter and Homer fight over the best beer in town – Pawtucket vs Duff. 

How awesome is that? I am really hoping for super funnies coming from this crossover. What do you think? I can't wait for Brian to get drunk at Moe's.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Show and Tell

Hey all! It’s Richie (83rw) your CtrlAltNerd.com Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle blogger and this week I have got some cool stuff for show and tell. For starters I want to show off a set of raised stickers that my daughter picked up for me at the dollar store. The TMNT characters on the stickers are based off the Nickelodeon series. There are 23 unique stickers in this set. The designs are great, however they are pretty much the same pose that you find on most Nickelodeon TMNT products that are out now. That is probably my biggest complaint about most of the merchandise out from Nickelodeon. Everything has the same pose of the turtles. The show is getting ready to wrap up season 2, could Nickelodeon and their licensing team spend just a little time to come up with something different? Either way I thought the stickers were neat and I thanked my daughter profusely for thinking of me when she could have gotten herself something else using her piggy bank money.

The next piece of merchandise that I wanted to show off was a recent purchase from Amazon. My wife and I recently had our 13^th anniversary and she picked me up the complete set of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Series One Funko Pops! This series is based off the original Fred Wolf 1980’s cartoon. The set includes the four turtles a long with Master Splinter, and the villain Shredder. I love me some Funko, so these were a perfect choice for a gift. I am really happy with the quality of toys Funko produces. These are not my first Pops! either. I have a few others such as Harley Quinn, V for Vendetta, and Hulk. It was also announced that this July, Funko will be producing even more TMNT toys, ranging from bobble heads to mystery mini figures. I am excited for April O’Neil, Rocksteady, Bebop, and the Foot Solider appearing in Series Two of the Pops! The last item that I would like to show and tell is an amazing collectible that a fellow TMNT fan picked up for me on Free Comic Book Day this year up in Maine. For Free Comic Book Day Peter Laird and Kevin Eastman the creators of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles appeared together for event at Shellback Artworks (https://www.facebook.com/ShellbackArtworks) in Wells, Maine for the first time in almost 20 years. For this event Peter Laird also printed up the latest issue (Vol.4 #32) of the original Mirage comic book, it is limited to only 1,000 copies and will not be getting a second print (as far as I know). For those that are aware Peter Laird sold the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in 2009 to Viacom/Nickelodeon. In his deal he was allowed to continue publishing TMNT comics under his Mirage Publications banner but was limited to 18 black and white comics per year. Issue #32 is the first comic he has published since the sale, almost 5 years since issue #30 was published. Issue #31 never saw the printer but was released digitally for free via Peter’s blog (http://peterlairdstmntblog.blogspot.com/). So with that information you can see how special this printing of #32 is. So my friend picked me up a copy of this comic while at Shellback and was able to have Peter and Kevin sign the comic as well as Steve Lavigne (inks, lettering and coloring for TMNT comics) and Jim Lawson (inks, and pencils for TMNT comics). The buzz about this even must have been huge as there was a line out of the door according to pictures I have seen and the comic is already fetching high dollars on eBay and other auction sites. I have seen it hit upwards to $200. I am extremely thankful that my friend was able to grab me a copy for just cover price and some shipping. This has quickly become one of my favorite TMNT pieces in my collection.

Arrow Season Finale and The Flash!

It's an all out war on the season finale of Arrow. Team Arrow vs Team Deathstroke, kill or be killed.  jbaidbquibduqbxiabiqdbwbd!!!!!! Those are my emotions over this. I love this show. I can't wait to watch it every week and once a week just isn't enough to me. It took me a good minute to get into this show, but once I did it was all over, my addiction had set in. So much has happened to get us to this point and I'm so super sad to see it go for the whole summer.

This trailer shows us more than just the season finale of Arrow. It also give us a sneak peek at the upcoming CW show The Flash. And OMG! I was never really a huge Flash fan, but this show has really got me excited. I'm just hoping the CW keeps with the darker theme, like Arrow.

That's how I feel about this trailer. DC is doing it again. Looks like they are bring us another amazing looking, and I say looking because we won't know until this fall, tv show. With a mix of scary and humor. It does remind me a lot of Supernatural. If this show turns out to be as good as I looks in this trailer I'm sure it will have a cult following in no time.

Gotham give us Joker!

Yes! That's right ladies and gentlemen. Bruno Heller from the fox show Gotham confirms that they will be bring the Joker into the show at some point. 

“He’s the crown jewel of the Batman villains.  He will be brought in with great care and a lot of thought.” “It will be a different character [from Heath Ledger's Joker].  It’s certainly going to be more Heath Ledger than Cesar Romero. But like I say, all of these people are real people with feelings and emotions and history and parents. I just build from that.” 

Being that Gotham is full of younger characters, could we be seeing a younger Joker? How old is the Joker any ways? From some research online I have found that most people see the joker being the same age as Bruce Wayne or a little bit older. Could we be seeing a teenage Joker?

Marvel Upping it's Tv Show Game

Marvel announced that Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D has been picked up for a second season to start this fall. That's awesome news because after the whole Winter Soldier tie in the show got amazing! After this week's show I'm dying to see next weeks, but I'm sad it will be going away for the summer.

But in other awesome Marvel tv show news, ABC has order Agent Carter. You may remember Peggy Carter as a member of the S.S.R and after catching the criminal known as Zodiac, she became a agent of S.H.I.E.L.D. Agent Carter was ordered as a "bridge show". Agent Carter will air during the season two Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D hiatus. Agent Carter will tie into Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D, which leaves us guessing how they will pull that off. Will Coulson and his team be traveling back in time to stop Hydra from ever getting into S.H.I.E.L.D or could Carter be traveling forward in time to help put S.H.I.E.L.D back together? Guess we wouldn't know until the show airs this fall.

This news is being added to the five other Marvel shows that will be on Netflix soon including Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage, Iron Fist, and The Defenders.

Trailer for Gotham!!!

Holy shit Batman! Or should I say Holy Shit Gordon. We have been hearing about this show for months now. I have been posting about the plot and cast of the show and now we have a trailer. The trailer shows a young James Gordon just joining to GCPD. We get to see a young Bruce Wayne, Penguin, Riddler, Cat Woman, and Poison Ivy. Fox has picked up this show for 13 episodes. I'm really looking forward to watching. I'm interested in how they will tell the story of Gotham with all the main characters being so young.

What are your thoughts and opinions? Do you think a show about Gotham can hold it's own without Batman and the other main characters in Gotham?

Sailor Moon Reboot date!

All you Sailor Moon fans can now circle the date on your calendars! July 5, 2014 will be the premier date of Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon: Crystal. The show will air every other week with a run of 26 episodes.  There is no word yet if it will have English dubs, for now it will be in Japanese with subtitles. 

I'm a huge Sailor Moon fan and I feel super old knowing that the 1st Sailor Moon manga hit the shelves 20 years ago.

It's Just a Mask by Richie Williams

Hey all! It’s Richie your CtrlAltNerd.com Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle blogger. I have got to say that it is amazing how seemingly innocent things become viral and start a snowball effect on the Internet. In March the trailer for the new Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles movie was released. At the end of the trailer Michelangelo (Noel Fisher) bumps into April (Megan Fox) and says “don’t freak out, it’s just a mask” and then takes off his orange bandana, holds it up and then April proceeds to faint in classic TMNT fashion. This particular scene is humorous and entertaining and gives a good look on how the turtles will appear and interact with April. What happened next throughout the Youtube community is equally funny.

Several animators have recreated the “It’s just a mask” scene using flash animation and other techniques to add some parody to the joke. In some videos Sloth from the Goonies appears, in another you can find Shrek. Mabel from Gravity falls appears in one with Dipper behind the mask. If you search Youtube for “It’s just a mask” you will find a lot more parodies from the TMNT trailer, some are better than others, but they are all great in their own regard. I have to give major credit to all of the animators who went out of their way to create some great material. Below you can check out some of my favorites. Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles is due in theaters August 8^th, 2014. It is directed by Jonathan Liebesman and stars Megan Fox and Will Arnett.

World of Warcraft Choppers

    I seen this over the weekend and got super excited. I haven't watched America Choppers in years, but this drew me back in. Orange County Choppers are building not one, but two bikes for World of Warcraft, one for Alliance and one for Horde. ( I'm sure Horde will look better, just saying lol)

True Blood Season 7 Teaser!

The final season of True Blood starts June 22nd on HBO. This teaser just got my super excited. I'm so sad to see it go, but so looking forward to hopefully enjoying very minute of the last season.

Batman: Assault on Arkham

Holy Batman, Batman fan we have a new show coming our way. Batman: Assault on Arkham will be featuring all our favorite Batman characters including Joker and the Suicide Squad! The director is Jay Oliva, the storyboard artist for 300: Rise of the Empire, Man of Steel, and the animated Batman: Year Old. It'll also have the voices of Kevin Conroy as Batman, Neal McDonough as Deadshot, Hynden Walch as Harley Quinn, and CCH Pounder as Amanda Waller. There is no exact release date but we hear that DC expects it to be out some time this fall. 

I'm super excited to see Harley back in animated form on my TV. And not just any Harley, my favorite Harley, Suicide Squad Harley!
